Fishing off Cairns during Mood Swings repair

While the split water tank repair continues on Mood Swings, we decided to amuse ourselves fishing off Cairns.

The tank repair was quite problematic (as you’ll see in the video).

And our deckie Evatt (who also works as a guide for Anglers Choice safaris in Darwin) was unable to stay any longer and had to return to home.

If you’re keen on a charter in Darwin, we have done several Anglers Choice trips and we can’t recommend them high enough.

But for today we are fishing off Cairns.

We start on the inner reefs using the depth sounder to find some detachments.

Small coral trout can be found in good numbers and are the best for eating. So the aim is to get some fish for Evatt to take home to his wife Annie.

The morning session was a bit average.

However the fishing off Cairns fired up after a quick snorkel and it was hard to get Evatt back for his plane.

And while we were enjoying ourselves, the water tank repair was being finalised.

Join us as we go fishing off Cairns and provide an update on the split water tank repair.

TIME AND TIDE FOR FISHING OFF CAIRNS

Making tides up to the moons are best for demersal fishing.

This is becasue, as you get closer to the moon, the tidal run gets a little larger stimulating the bite periods.

BEST TACKLE

Any medium range tackle in either overhead or spin from 10 kg to 15 kg is best when fishing around smaller detached spots.

But you can use slightly heavier gear if you’re in areas of heavy cover. Like nearer to the reefs.

RMF FISHING LURES

All our lures have been well and truly proven over time on charter with Ryan Moody when he was a fishing guide. And worked a treat while fishing off Cairns.
So you can be sure they WILL work – if you put them in front of fish.
