Fishing beside the green zone and looking for structure.

Ep. 6 Fishing beside the green zone

Trapped by the monsoon in Watsons Bay (Lizard Island), our only option was fishing beside the green zone.

In an attempt to catch lunch, we headed off to a tiny window between the green zone and the gale force south easter.

The minute we poked our nose near the corner, the spot lock wouldn’t hold. It was absolute gale force and worst day thus far.

Hence we had to retreat from the wind into a tiny bay.

Fishing directly beside the green zone.

Typically these areas can be very productive as they are seeded by the green zone.

But in this tiny area, would find virtually no rubble for fish to hold on.

Find out what happens when we get trapped fishing directly beside the green zone in the latest episode.

Having a productive trip going remote is easier with a good understanding of your sounder. Sounder Skills is only $20 Australian at the moment and is well-worth a look. If you don’t learn anything let me know and I’ll give you your money back.

ENTERTAINING OURSELVES HOLED UP IN WATSONS BAY BY THE MONSOON BEFORE FISHING BESIDE THE GREEN ZONE

Boats anchored in tropical bay
Anchored up in Watsons Bay sheltering from the howling south easter. We love it here and come to Lizard Island often. We left Mood Swings at anchor and tried our luck fishing beside the green zone around the corner.
Weighing anchor and moving boat
It was so windy the swell was coming around the corner so we weighed anchor and moved in closer to the beach. About a metre under the rudders at low tide.
Sharks with ropes attached.
Hand-feeding the harmless lemon sharks is heaps of fun. However, we noticed other boats tying ropes to the fish frames, which obviously get pulled out of your hands. best for the sharks to just throw the frames overboard. They come right up to the boat and you don’t have to wrestle them.
Rope trailing behind shark
Please do not tie ropes to fish frames when feeding the harmless lemon sharks in the Watsons Bay green zone. Or anywhere!
Fishing beside green zones is usually productive as the green zone seeds the outside areas
Trapped between the green zone and howling south easter left us fishing beside the green zone in a tiny area.
Fisherman with wire netting cod fishing beside the green zone
Fish of the day a trusty wire-netting cod. No suprises since we were relegated to such a tiny area fishing beside the green zone.
