We finally did it!
After months of sitting on 1999 and catching a score of 90-99 cm fish, Ryan finally caught his 2000th metre plus barramundi after a 30 year career in fishing charters.
Even more exciting, we made the nightly news AND got a write up in the paper.
To celebrate we made a video about Ryan’s journey from cheeky Townsville kid to Master angler.
He tells the story about catching the big girl in the video, which also documents his fishing career, how he got started and some great fishing footage.
A summarized version of the record capture is as follows:
- Location – Cardwell Marina, North Queensland, Australia
- Technique – Hand casting lures
- Lure – Old Dog Lures “Mutt”
- Reel – Fin-Nor Lethal 40
- Rod – Berkley Blast 10 kg spin (6’6″)
- Braid – Rovex Air Strike 20 lb
Frequent visitors to our blog may be aware that we ran a competition to guess when the big 2000th fish would be caught.
Well… The winner is JCU Engineering student Brendan Tabone, who is also a student of our Wonky Holes course.
Brendan has been itching to get into our Barra Basics course and requested a prize swap from our swag of amazing fishing gear prizes to an entry into Barra Basics (knowledge is everything he said). And we couldn’t agree more!
So we have redrawn the prizes as a random redraw for members of our Ryan Moody Fishing community! Which is another amazing reason to sign up to join our community. Free tips, random prizes and course specials are all part of the perks.
So the lucky winners of the redrawn prizes are;
Spotters Pack: Jack Ludbrook
Fin-Nor Lethal 40: Andrew Gleeson
Old Dog “MUTT” lures: Geoff Scott
JWB Fishing Shirts: Joshua MacCarthy.
We will be in touch guys.
All of the above businesses played a part in the capture of the 2000th fish (and several others) and we are so grateful that they have donated these special prizes to help commemorate the event
