Hinchinbrook Fishing: How to catch a 125cm barra!

A 125cm barramundi is a trophy fish and a fish of lifetime.

Graham Phillips is the angler and James Pascoe the rather excited fellow in the background.

Twas a day of horrible weather, the barometer not much chop and my confidence a little low – so much so that I almost cancelled at the boatramp! Lucky I didn’t.

Eventually we marked a dozen giant barra on the sounder and persistence here was the key.

Finally after 5-6 passes we finally got one to have a snap… She smashed the 8m deep diver hard and Graham was on. The result – 125 cm of golden salty – our biggest fish for 2012 – released of course to have many babies and provide endless barra catching days into the future.

We are not sure why he is grimacing so much in the photo.

Maybe the rain pelting his face, the weight of the big barra on the end of the line or getting exhausting from the fight… One thing is for sure, this photo is a memory he will never forget.

Moral of the story: When everything is against you… NEVER give up!
