Shane Clifton testimonial

"I've done 4 of Ryan's courses now and find the info clear, concise and easy to follow. Living in Perth I wasn't sure they would be relevant, but without doubt they've reduced the time I spend searching for fish."

I can't speak highly enough about these courses.

Catch Trophy Fish Offshore
LEARN MY OFFSHORE SECRETS…

Many offshore anglers stumble across a honey hole occasionally. But without a system to find more, they retreat back to the same tired ground.

As a charter operator of 30 years, my reputation for trophy fish wasn’t built on luck. It was built on a structured system for locating untouched offshore ground that consistently holds quality fish, often with fewer sharks.

Using charts, geology, sonar and fish behaviour, I’ll show you where to start looking on purpose.

So you can:

  • Save time and fuel
  • Maximise your investments in electronics and gear
  • Build your own portfolio of productive ground
  • Put better fish in the esky, consistently

There’s nothing better than coming home with quality fish you found yourself.

Inside Offshore Opportunities, I’ll show you exactly how I do it.

— Ryan

What Is Offshore Opportunities?
Ryan Moody offshore fishing course - learn to find trophy fish

Offshore Opportunities is a self-study training program that teaches you, step by step, how to find productive offshore ground holding trophy demersals.

We focus on open-water areas inside the shelf, often away from obvious reefs and islands, and target the best-eating fish on the planet.

These delicious demersals exist across the world. Names change, but habits don’t.

Whether you fish rubble grounds up north, open ledges down south, or similar offshore grounds overseas, the same principles apply.

Is This You?

  • Pull up at an old mark
  • Catch a bunch of tiddlers
  • Hook a quality fish… then the taxman arrives
  • Burn fuel running blind, hoping the next spot will be better
  • Waste prime bite windows
  • Sometimes have a good day… but can’t explain why

Because offshore success isn’t one trick. It’s multiple factors working together.

It’s habitat + current + positioning + assessment + timing + presentation.

This course shows you how to connect those dots using a simple, proven framework.

What Makes Offshore Opportunities Different?

Most anglers rely on luck, old marks, or endless scanning.

Ryan spent 33+ years as a fishing guide, watching patterns repeat across tides, moons, currents and seasons. He studied underwater geology to learn where isolated structures are likely to pop up. From that experience, he distilled everything into a clear step-by-step framework that removes guesswork.

You'll learn to:

  • Narrow down productive zones before you leave the ramp
  • Read "between the lines" on bathymetric charts and/or relief shading
  • Identify subtle rubble, shoals, trenches and hidden structure
  • Assess new ground properly so you don’t miss fish
  • Learn to fish structure correctly in relation to current interactions
  • Know when to stay and when to move
  • Reduce shark depredation
  • Save fuel
  • Build your own portfolio of marks
  • Position the boat correctly so you're actually fishing on the fish

This is the difference between fishing spots and fishing with strategy.

Fishing with a plan changes everything

Less frustration.

More confidence.

Less second guessing.

More enjoyment.

That adrenaline rush when the rod loads up and you know you earned it.
Case Study
"I was pretty much just going out and hoping for the best"

I've been fishing offshore out of Yeppoon for 6 to 8 years, and before doing this course I was pretty much just going out with a few marks and hoping for the best.

I'd picked up bits and pieces over the years from other fishermen and found a few spots of my own, but it was still pretty hit and miss.

Doing this course changed the whole way I think about offshore fishing.

It gave me a much better understanding of how it all works, what I should be looking for, how to read what's on the sounder properly, and how to actually go in with a plan instead of just burning fuel and hoping a mark fires.

The DownScan part really opened my eyes. I thought I was all over my sounder, but I definitely wasn't. That was just one of many things I took out of it.

It also made a lot more sense of things like current, where bait sits, where the fish are likely to be, and how that all affects how you should approach a spot and position the boat.

There's a lot in it, but in a good way. It's the kind of course you'll go back over more than once.

I'd 100% recommend it. It's unreal.

Inside Offshore Opportunities
Ryan Moody Fishing

The core learning incorporates chartwork, geology, sonar, fish behaviour and a one-page decision framework.

Inside, Ryan breaks down:

  • The 5 key ocean features holding good fish
  • Two main search categories: defined structure and foraging areas
  • 13 curiosity zones to shrink your search area
  • The 3 T's framework: territory, timing, technique
  • Situational run offshore
  • Advanced boat positioning and assessment

When charts, geology, sonar and current align, you gain clarity.

Clarity separates lucky days from repeatable results.

What you'll learn
  • 1

    Pre-trip strategy

It's a Masterclass in chart reading.

Plan from home and arrive offshore with multiple high-probability options — not tired waypoints.

  • 2

    Offshore habitats

Identify open water structures that consistently hold a better class of fish.

  • 3

  • 5

    Build your own portfolio

Develop your own network of reliable marks. Fish your own ground. Not someone else's hand-me-down waypoints.

Experience the satisfaction of catching big fish with skill instead of luck.

It’s Like Having Ryan in the Boat With You (Only Better).

Even 20 years ago, a tuition trip on the water with Ryan was over $1200.

But here’s the truth. In one given day you can only cover limited scenarios for ground, wind direction, tide etc.

Offshore Opportunities wasn’t filmed in a hurry. It was shot over a full year in different areas, different seasons and different current strengths. Good days. Tough days. Real decisions being made on the water.

You’re not just watching fish get caught. You’re learning why the decisions were made.

And we’ve been teaching this way online for over 12 years now. More than 37,000 anglers have worked through our courses and put it into practice. Plenty of them were sceptical about learning online at first, but were soon blown away at how their fishing improved.

The difference is structure.

You can pause it. Rewatch it. Study charts at home. Go back over a section before your next trip.

You’re not trying to remember everything from one big day. You’re building understanding over time.

That’s where the real improvement happens.

And when you start putting it together, something shifts.

You stop hoping.

You start hunting.

Evatt Farrell testimonial

"I’ve done several of Ryan’s courses now and have WOW moments every time. I’ve been lucky enough to fish with him in the past yet still picked up so much from this course. I’ve got so many new spots to explore in my local patch, it’s completely changed how I plan a trip and look at charts."

Evatt Farrell, Darwin

Joel Shulte testimonial

"I have a smaller boat so weather is a factor plus there’s so much competition on known close ground it all gets fished out. Offshore Opportunities has blown my mind and given me so many more options to catch good fish outside the box."

Joel Schulte, Yeppoon

Nick Fil testimonial

"The strategy Ryan teaches here is gold. It’s not just a bunch of fishing tips — it’s a complete system for finding and fishing better ground offshore. The anglers who watch this properly will be seriously switched on when they hit the water."

Nick Fil, Bundaberg

PROGRAM TOUR
Below is the complete course breakdown. Each module builds toward one goal: helping you confidently find, assess, and fish productive offshore ground.

Set the foundation and learn the “big picture” that separates guesswork from confident offshore planning.

  • Concept 1: The core principles behind strategic offshore fishing
  • Concept 2: Ocean Features + the Framework (this is the scene-setter for the whole course)

Make your offshore investment count. Your gear, rigs, sounder use and bait presentation matter more offshore than most people realise.

  • Gear and rigs for offshore success
  • Sounder foundations masterclass for searching and assessing both structure and open-water “paddock” country
  • Demos: Five knots, rigging, pinning live bait, presenting dead bait, cast net method

Learn to locate and fish subtle defined structures most boats ignore, including where the fish position in different run direction and strength, for accurate assessment and how to fish it efficiently.

Includes concept training and demo videos on:

  • ancient riverbeds
  • ledges and drop-offs
  • isolated rocks and open-water structure
  • prominent shoals, spits, deep coral isolates
  • inner shelf rocks and trench walls
  • bonus anchoring for accuracy (when you don’t have spot lock)
  • chart work demo

Rubble, mounds and foraging shoals that “ring the dinner bell” for foragers like red emperor and snapper, plus how to pinpoint where to fish when the area is big.

  • concept training on foraging zones
  • demos: rubble pads, underwater spurs and more…
  • bonus: prioritising curiosity zones (real chartwork walkthroughs)

From bite to boat, plus handling and filleting so you don’t waste your hard-earned fish.

  • hook-up improvements and decision “finishers”
  • handling and release where needed
  • filleting trick to maximise your yield

Access to a private student-only Facebook study group is GOLD.

Ryan drops in regularly to answer your questions. Ambassadors assist. Students share success and local knowledge.

12 months included.

The collective learning is powerful. A rising tide lifts all boats.

Case Study
"I'm not the sort of bloke who'd normally buy a course"

I've fished offshore most of my life and already catch a decent fish, so I'm not really the sort of bloke who would normally go and buy a course.

That's probably why Offshore Opportunities surprised me so much.

It far exceeded what I expected.

What I got from it wasn't just more information for the sake of it. It actually helped refine a lot of things I'd picked up over the years from mates, family and time on the water, but had never fully connected.

A few things really stood out.

I started seeing the value in tools I already had but wasn't making the most of, especially DownScan.

I found myself looking at the charts differently and already thinking about new curiosity zones I want to check next trip.

And more than anything, I came away feeling like I can turn a lot more of the bad days into good days, simply because I'll have more options and a better plan instead of just relying on the same old spots.

There's a lot in the course, and I know I'll go back through parts of it again before trips, but that's one of the big strengths. You can actually revisit it and keep pulling more gold out of it.

It doesn't matter what level of experience you've got, you will learn something from it.

Hear From Anglers Who've Been Through It

These longer interviews are for anglers who want to dig deeper into what students actually took out of the course.

"I’m so impressed I can’t wait to go over it again, because I reckon each pass you’ll pick up more stuff."

"It gave me a proper place to start. Where to look, how to plan ahead, and what to do when I got there."

"Even with a lot of blue water fishing experience, this course opened my eyes to how much ground I’d been driving over without really assessing properly."

"Ryan goes into a lot of detail about structure, fishing strategies and techniques that I never knew about."

"It’s opened my eyes to finding areas outside the heavily fished spots, instead of fighting everyone else for the same fish."

"I’m not the sort of bloke who’d normally buy a course, but Offshore Opportunities far exceeded what I expected."

"It changed my whole perspective. It gives you a structured plan instead of just running out and hoping."

"Now I'm going with a little bit more intent and focus, and structure."

"It gives you a method instead of just heading out and hoping something works on the day."

ABOUT RYAN MOODY

Ryan began on reef boats before chasing bucket-list marlin for high-profile anglers including Johnno Johnson, INXS and the King of Sweden.

Living offshore during marlin season, catching meals for clients on motherships, he developed a deep understanding of weather, current and fish behaviour.

Years of studying subtle sounder signals while travelling reef to reef led to an interest in geology and underwater structure — forming what became the Offshore Opportunities framework.

With attitudes changing from 'keep all you can' to sustainable fishing, Ryan has decided to share his extensive knowledge and hopefully inspire people of all ages to get out from behind the computer screen/TV and into the fishing outdoors lifestyle he has spent his life perfecting.

ABOUT FISH SMARTER

Ryan kept his fishing secrets close for decades.

After losing a close friend, he decided to leave a legacy — helping anglers fish with strategy instead of luck.

Together with his marine biologist wife Karen, complex concepts are broken into simple, practical lessons.

Fish smarter. Not harder.

How Much Have You Already Invested?

Let's be real for a minute.

If you added it all up — the boat, trailer, electronics, safety gear, rods and reels, servicing, bait and fuel — what would it come to?

$50,000?

More?

Most of us don't even want to do the maths.

And then there's the fuel burned on days where you were just searching. Running from mark to mark. Hoping the next stop would be better.

We've all done it.

Ryan learned this system the hard way over 30+ years. Thousands of trips. Plenty of fuel. Plenty of trial and error.

Offshore Opportunities condenses those years into a clear framework you can use straight away.

For less than the cost of a few decent offshore fuel bills.

It's not about buying another rod or upgrading electronics.

It's about finally knowing what you're doing when you leave the ramp.

Knowledge that sharpens every trip from here on.

Knowledge you can pass on to your kids.

Memories you'll be proud of.

When you look at it that way, the course isn't expensive.

Fishing without a plan is.

STILL CURIOUS? HERE ARE STRAIGHT ANSWERS.

No. The training is pre-recorded and completely self-paced.

There are no live session times and no deadlines. You can start as soon as you enrol and work through the modules at your own speed.

You’ll also receive 12 months access to the private student Facebook group, where you can ask questions and learn alongside others working through the same structured framework.

Lifetime access to the course content is included.

You can watch it as many times as you like.

Offshore Opportunities is a comprehensive system, not a one-and-done video. Most students benefit from watching it through once to understand the full framework, then going back and focusing on specific areas as their skills improve.

You’ll pick up new details each time you revisit it.

As the saying goes, the man who chases two rabbits catches none. We recommend one complete run-through first, then using the workbook to decide where to focus next.

There is no expiry on the course content, so you can return to it before trips or whenever conditions change.

If you can watch YouTube, you can manage this.

The course is hosted inside a secure membership site and works on computer, tablet or phone. You simply log in and press play.

Everything is laid out clearly and in order, so you’re not clicking around trying to figure out where to start.

And if you do run into any issues, our tech support team is on hand during business hours to help you get sorted quickly.

We’ve had thousands of students complete our courses over the past 10 years — many of whom weren’t “tech people” either.

You’ll be fine.

If you are new to offshore fishing but serious about improving, yes.

This is not a boating course. It assumes you can operate your vessel safely offshore. What we focus on is how to think, plan and make better fishing decisions once you are there.

The first two modules are designed to get everyone up to speed. For newer anglers, they build a solid foundation. For more experienced fishos, they often serve as useful revision and help tighten up gaps in their approach.

Many beginners actually progress quickly because they learn the right framework from the start instead of developing habits that need fixing later.

You will also have access to the private student study group for 12 months. That is where beginners can ask questions, share screenshots, and learn from Ryan and experienced anglers who are applying the same system.

If you are willing to study and apply what is taught, you will be building your offshore fishing the right way from day one.

If you have been fishing offshore for years and catch good fish, that is great.

But there is a big difference between catching fish and fully understanding the patterns.

Most experienced anglers have solid days, but struggle with repeatability. When the run changes, the current pushes harder than expected, or the sharks move in, confidence drops and decision-making becomes reactive.

That is where a structured system makes the difference.

As a fishing guide for well over 3 decades, Ryan’s had thousands of trips. Thousands of fish. Watching patterns repeat across tides, moons, seasons and pressure.

That volume of exposure builds a level of pattern recognition most anglers simply have not had the opportunity to develop.

One of the most common pieces of feedback we receive from experienced students is this:

“I cannot believe how many fish I have been driving over.”

Or: “I did not realise how much I did not know.”

Offshore Opportunities is not about teaching you how to catch your first red. It is about tightening your thinking, sharpening your decision-making, and helping you consistently land on the better class of fish.

The difference is subtle. The results are not.

No. They serve different purposes.

Sounder Skills 2 focuses on setting up and tuning your electronics properly, understanding frequencies, beam angles and learning how to interpret what you’re seeing on the screen.

Offshore Opportunities focuses on where to start looking in the first place.

It’s about identifying high-probability areas using charts, geology, current and habitat — then using your sounder to assess them properly.

There is an offshore sounder section inside Offshore Opportunities to help students get up to speed, even if they haven’t completed Sounder Skills 2.

But the emphasis here is strategy and location planning, not deep electronics setup.

If Sounder Skills 2 helps you read the screen better, Offshore Opportunities helps you decide where to point the boat.

They complement each other well, but Offshore Opportunities stands alone as a complete offshore framework.

No. Each course focuses on different zones and levels of specialisation.

Catching Coral Trout focuses on coral reef systems and the specific habitat patterns that hold coral trout and other reef species. It’s a reef fishing strategy built around coral structure and trout behaviour.

Wonky Holes is a specialist course. It focuses on locating and fishing underwater spring systems and the specific habitat patterns that consistently hold large mouth nannygai. It’s very targeted.

Finding Fingermark is the nearshore equivalent of Offshore Opportunities. It focuses on structure and habitat in shallower, closer-in areas where fingermark and similar species live.

Offshore Opportunities sits further out inside the continental shelf. It covers the broader offshore paddock — ledges, rubble pads, riverbeds, shoals, isolates and foraging areas — and targets a range of quality demersals including nannygai, red emperor, pink snapper, pearl perch and more.

There is some species overlap. For example, you might catch nannygai or snapper using principles from multiple courses.

But the difference is in the habitat focus and level of specialisation.

  • Catching Coral Trout focuses on coral reef systems
  • Wonky Holes is highly specific to offshore spring systems
  • Finding Fingermark is a nearshore structure strategy
  • Offshore Opportunities is comprehensive offshore planning across multiple habitat types

Many of our students go on to complete more than one course as their confidence grows and they decide to specialise further. They often tell us the frameworks complement each other and help them see the bigger picture.

You don’t need them all to succeed.

But they are designed to build on each other.

If you are targeting offshore demersal species that relate to structure and current, then yes.

While the course footage is filmed in Australian waters, the framework was designed to work worldwide.

Fish fill ecological niches. The names change from region to region, but their habits are remarkably similar. Red emperors in Queensland, snapper in southern states, groupers and snapper in Florida, they all relate to structure, current and feeding zones in predictable ways.

We have students in over 80 countries, and one of the most common pieces of feedback from anglers outside North Queensland is that they were surprised how well the principles translated to their own waters.

The key is to look for the similarities, not the differences.

Offshore Opportunities is built around habitat, current flow, positioning and assessment – not postcode.

If your target species live on offshore structure and respond to run and bait movement, the framework applies.

No.

A modern 3-in-1 transducer (2D, Down Imaging and Side Imaging) will give you more detail and make searching easier. Down Imaging in the 455–800 kHz range and Side Imaging in the 455–260 kHz range are very useful offshore. Relief shading and quality bathymetric charts also make pre-trip planning far more efficient.

But you do not need top-end gear to benefit from this course.

Ryan was catching quality offshore fish 30 years ago with electronics that would be considered very basic by today’s standards. The difference wasn’t the technology. It was understanding habitat, current and positioning.

Inside Offshore Opportunities we go deep into sonar and assessment methods. You’ll learn the differences between 2D, Down Imaging and Side Imaging, how frequencies affect what you see, how to get the most out of what you have — and just as importantly, the limitations of each mode so you don’t get misled.

Better gear can help.

But how you use it matters far more.

No.

Spot Lock makes boat positioning easier, but it is not essential.

The course covers positioning whether you use an electric motor or traditional anchoring methods.

The core content runs for approximately 7 hours in total.

That’s about one hour a night for a week.

If you’re serious about improving your offshore results, that’s a small investment compared to the time and fuel spent on unproductive trips.

There’s no fluff or filler. Every lesson is practical and structured. The workbook keeps you focused so you’re not jumping around.

You can complete it in a focused week or spread it over a few weekends. And with lifetime access, you can revisit sections before trips whenever you need to.

The two biggest hesitations we see are time and cost — especially from anglers who already catch a few good fish.

The most common comment afterwards?

“I wish I’d done this years ago.”

Seven hours now can change the way you fish for years.

Many students see improvements quickly — especially anglers who already have time on the water.

When the framework “joins the dots,” experienced fishos often hit the ground running because they suddenly understand why certain spots worked and why others didn’t.

That said, this is fishing, not magic.

The results come from applying the system consistently. If you study the material and adjust your planning, positioning and assessment methods, your results should improve — often noticeably.

Some anglers see immediate gains. For others, it builds steadily as the habits settle in.

The key is implementation.

The framework works. You just need to work the framework.

Because it is not a weekend seminar or a handful of tips.

Offshore Opportunities represents over 30 years of full-time offshore guiding experience, filmed over an entire year in varied conditions and structured into a clear, repeatable framework.

You are not paying for information you could piece together on YouTube. You are investing in pattern recognition built across thousands of trips, condensed into a system you can apply anywhere.

We have been teaching online for over 10 years with more than 30,000 students worldwide. The structure works. The teaching method works. The results speak for themselves.

Most offshore anglers have invested $50,000+ in boats, fuel and electronics. This course helps you maximise that investment for the next decade of fishing.

The $899 introductory rate is available for this launch only.

It is not a sale and it will not be repeated.
